Investing in Airbnb Properties: A Case Study

Getting started with your Airbnb business requires a big leap of faith upfront: making the initial investment. Understandably, investing in a short-term rental property makes a lot of people nervous and raises all sorts of questions. Is this really a good investment? What locations are the best investments? How will I find a property worth investing in?

For the subject project I was commissioned by a German investor to identify and develop a risk-sensitive spec home with the ability to generate a value adding income stream potential for a final second home owner. Located on a triple-intersecting canal plot the new residence takes advantage of indoor-outdoor living and the site’s expansive views towards the famous Florida sunsets.

The design for Cape House draws inspiration from the Southern California school of architecture. The u-shaped home frames a generous vanishing edge pool seemingly extending the illusion of overflowing into the long-range water canal. The interior living areas complement the breathtaking outdoor spaces by orienting themselves entirely around the view focus. Every single room in the house was designed to equally share and enjoy a part of the outdoor spectacle.

Combining a privileged location setup with an occupant centric design layout resulted in a successful sale of the finished project and now poses as one of the areas prized vacation rental offerings.
